League Cup Success
United lifted the League Cup for the first time in the club’s history, beating Nottingham Forest 1–0 in the final at Wembley. Brian McClair scored the decisive goal, giving United a trophy after a season in which the league title ultimately slipped away. United had challenged near the top of the First Division but finished second behind Leeds United, who secured the championship with a strong end to the campaign. Despite the disappointment in the league, the cup victory represented an important milestone for Ferguson and his developing side, providing encouragement ahead of the new Premier League era.
