After selling several experienced players, United faced criticism for relying on a group of young talents, but the team responded emphatically. They recovered from a difficult start to win both the Premier League and FA Cup, with players such as David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Nicky Butt establishing themselves as important first-team regulars. Eric Cantona returned from suspension and provided the quality and leadership needed during the decisive stages of the campaign. United finished four points ahead of Newcastle United before Cantona scored the only goal in a 1–0 FA Cup final victory over Liverpool. United also won the 1996 Charity Shield, beating Newcastle United 4–0 through goals from Eric Cantona, Nicky Butt, David Beckham and Roy Keane.

Hi, I’m Dale

I’m the person behind MadeByDale and this website. It’s a passion project, built by a fan, for fans who love the shirts as much as the football.

My goal

To make the most fun and immersive way to explore Manchester United’s shirt history, season by season: every shirt, the trophies won, the players who made the difference and the stories behind each campaign, all in one place.

Keeping it going

The site is free to explore. If you enjoy it, an optional donation helps me cover hosting and domain costs and gives me the time to keep it updated, add more seasons and expand on specific years with deeper stories, stats and shirt details. No pressure at all: sharing the site with another fan helps just as much.
