United won their fourth Premier League title in five seasons, finishing seven points ahead of Newcastle United. David Beckham made headlines with his spectacular halfway-line goal against Wimbledon on the opening day, while Eric Cantona remained central to the team’s success, contributing goals, creativity and leadership. United reached the Champions League semi-finals but were eliminated by Borussia Dortmund, missing the chance to reach the final. Cantona announced his retirement at the end of the campaign, shocking supporters at just 30 years old. United had also won the 1997 Charity Shield, beating Chelsea 4–2 on penalties after a 1–1 draw, with Ronny Johnsen scoring United’s goal in normal time.

Hi, I’m Dale

I’m the person behind MadeByDale and this website. It’s a passion project, built by a fan, for fans who love the shirts as much as the football.

My goal

To make the most fun and immersive way to explore Manchester United’s shirt history, season by season: every shirt, the trophies won, the players who made the difference and the stories behind each campaign, all in one place.

Keeping it going

The site is free to explore. If you enjoy it, an optional donation helps me cover hosting and domain costs and gives me the time to keep it updated, add more seasons and expand on specific years with deeper stories, stats and shirt details. No pressure at all: sharing the site with another fan helps just as much.
